Enhancement of Zinc Ion Removal from Water by Physically Mixed Particles of Iron/Iron Sulfide

Zinc (Zn) removal by physically mixed particles of zero-valent iron (Fe) and sulfide (FeS) was investigated as one technology for Zn from waste groundwater. The effects the Fe/FeS mass ratio, including a single Fe FeS particles, pH on changes in concentrations Zn, Fe, S were examined batch test column tests, mechanism elimination discussed. Among all mixing fractions FeS, eliminated most effectively 3Fe/7FeS (mass ratio = 3/7). rate decreased order 3Fe/7FeS, whereas concentration 3Fe/7FeS. larger than that enhanced local cell reaction between particles. electrons caused corrosion moved to surface reduced dissolved oxygen solution. Zn2+, Fe2+, OH− ions solution then coprecipitated ZnFe2(OH)6 oxidized ZnFe2O4. Moreover, Zn2+ sulfurized ZnS both mixture simple increased with increasing range 3 7. From kinetic analysis removal, constant anode (Fe)/cathode almost same formation slightly alone.
